He's so close!

Canon is rolling onto his right side quite regularly now. He can roll over onto his stomach with a little help. When we bought this house, we weren't planning on having to worry about babies on stairs. Looks like we're going to have to figure out what to do about that sooner rather than later!

Gag me with a spoon!

OK all you 80's children...Aubree's junior high had spirit week this week and today was 80's day. How did I do? Let me point out all my brilliant ideas. Starting at the top, she has the crimped side ponie with thick fabric scrunchie, bright baby blue eye shadow and lots of it (too bad her ears aren't pierced or we would have found some bright dangly earrings!) jean jacket with collar up, obnoxious neon pink fingernail polish, rolled up jeans with holes in them, and vans dock shoes. She wouldn't let me cut bangs into her hair so I could curl them and give her "big hair". I prepped her on talking like a valley girl (Like, oh my gosh, did you see what she was wearing?) and saying things like rad, gnarly to the max, and gag me with a spoon. I thought for sure she would win with the shoes alone. Who still has those?! hahahaha! But there was another girl who showed up wearing my exact pattern of Homecoming dress with huge bangs and she won. I was laughing so hard it was difficult to console Aubree.

Ode to Canon

Canon is a very smiley baby. Here he is in his p.j.'s, wearing Aubree's glasses( looking very studious), and holding his head up at about 3 1/2 months. It won't be long before he's mobile! Look out!
Canon's blessing outfit and blanket. He wore this cute little vest once before it was too small.
Canon as a newborn. That phase didn't last long, did it?

They change so much in such a short time. When we brought Canon home, he fit into his car seat, cradle, newborn diapers and 0-3 month clothes. Now he doesn't fit into any of those things! We had to adjust his car seat belt twice within the first month. He's also in size 2 diapers and I just had to bust out the 9 month clothes today. What happened to my baby? He's turned into a tank, as Uncle Trent would say. And like Scott pointed out, every tank has a "cannon", so I guess the name fits. :)
I love the song Canon in D. I looked up what "canon" meant because I've heard it used to reference several things. It could be a song, a canon of scripture or law, but the definition that caught my attention was one that said it was the best representative work. Since my Canon will be influenced by both his parents and his siblings, he will be the best representative work of all of us as a family. And I love it when names have a story or meaning behind them.

Safe harbor

This is a poem I love by Dinah Maria Mulock Craik.
Safe Harbor
"Oh, the comfort-the
comfort of feeling safe
with a person-having
neither to weigh
thoughts nor measure
words, but pouring
them all right out, just as
they are, chaff and
grain together; certain
that a faithful hand
will take and sift them,
keep what is worth
keeping, and then with
the breath of kindness
blow the rest away."
